The All-Stars Recordings.

Latest CD - 'Once in a While'. (Lake Records)  SEE REVIEW in Newsflash!
Once in a while a traditional jazz CD comes along which doesn't conform to the usual pattern. This is perhaps the most varied to date, with of course classic jazz numbers like Flat Foot, It Looks Like A Big Time Tonight, Walking With The King and the title track - with the band, individually and ensemble-wise on top form throughout. But in addition there is a stimulating variety of other songs from diverse sources, with vocals a-plenty.
Christine Tyrrell is in fine form on the audience favourite Dont You Feel My Leg  and the rarely performed Bessie Smith gospel Moan You Moaners complete with supporting male chorus!  Phil Mason sings skiffle on K.C. Moan, gives a moving rendition of Dallas Blues together with a very fine cornet solo, and gives his own interpretation of Bob Dylan's Worried Blues. Micky Cooke, who plays great trombone on this CD, sings an exuberant version of Louisian-i-a by Joe Darensburg, Roger Myerscough explores with great sensitivity the gentle melodies of When Swallows Come Back to Capistrano, and Trefor Williams produces several fine bass solos, including his vocal feature Baby Face previously performed by such contrasting artists as Al Jolson and Little Richard. Drummer Laurie Chescoe and banjoist Jim McIntosh (who has since left the band) join him in providing a superb rhythm backing throughout.
The CD is available at our live gigs and by mail order (price £13 inc P & P in the UK and £14 from abroad).  Please send your order to:
